Jack High est un économiste américain de l'école autrichienne, ami de feu Don Lavoie. Il fait partie du groupe de la nouvelle génération qui a lancé les nouveaux économistes de l'école autrichienne aux USA juste après la première génération[1]. Depuis 2014, il est professeur émérite, affilié à l'université George Mason.
Il est diplômé de l'université de l'Utah (B.A.) puis il a continué ses études à l'UCLA (Université de Californie à Los Angeles) où il a obtenu son master et son Ph.D.
Jack High a d'abord enseigné à l'université de l'Utah (1971-1972) en tant que chargé de cours (instructor) puis fut enseignant assistant à l'UCLA (1975-1976). Il fut ensuite maître de conférence (lecturer), à la California State University de Fullerton (1978-1979 et 1980-1981) en poursuivant sa carrière comme professeur assistant visiteur à l'université "California State" à Long Beach (1983-1984). Il a enrichi son son CV académique en effectuant des passages pour enseigner dans la Graduate School of Business Administration, de la prestigieuse université de Havard (Newcomen Fellow : 1990-1991 et Visiting Professor, de 1992 à 1994). Il a effectué le reste de sa carrière universitaire à l'université George Mason (professeur assistant (1981-1988); professeur associé (1988-1995), professeur d'économie et de politique publique (de 1995 à 2014).
Durant sa carrière, Jack High s'est intéressé au processus de la concurrence et aux lois Antitrust.

- ↑ La première génération de l'école autrichienne aux USA a été impulsée par la venue sur le continent américain de Ludwig von Mises et de Friedrich Hayek. Dans cette génération, on compte Israel Kirzner, Murray Rothbard, George Reisman et d'autres brillants esprits... La deuxième génération s'est constituée notamment autour de l'Austrian Economics Newsletter. On voit poindre les futurs "stars" universitaires de l'école autrichienne qui vont donner une nouvelle dynamique par leur soif frénétique d'apprendre et de prolonger la pensée de l'école autrichienne. Dans ce groupe non inclusif, on compte, Walter Block, Richard Ebeling, Richard Fink, Don Lavoie, Joseph Salerno, Jack High, Lawrence White...
