Russell Roberts ou Russ Roberts est chercheur principal affilié au Mercatus (Professeur à l'université George Mason) et chercheur à la Hoover Institution de l'université Stanford depuis 2003.

Il a obtenu son premier diplôme universitaire en économie (B.A.) en 1975 à l'Université de Caroline du Nord et un Ph.D. en économie de l'Université de Chicago en 1981 avec une thèse intitulée : "Une analyse positive de la conception des programmes de transferts gouvernementaux", sous la direction de Gary Becker.

Avant de rejoindre l'Université George Mason (2003), Russell Roberts a travaillé à l'Université de Washington (1989-1999) où il était le directeur fondateur du Centre d'apprentissage expérientiel à l'École de gestion John M. Olin et senior fellow au Centre Weidenbaum sur l'économie, l'Etat et les politiques publiques. Il a également enseigné à l'Université de Rochester (1980-1987), à l'Université de Stanford (1986-1987) et à l'UCLA (1987-1989).

Russell Roberts est un commentateur régulier à ls radio. En plus de nombreuses publications scientifiques, il a écrit pour le New York Times et le Wall Street Journal. Il est membre du Conseil consultatif fondateur de la Bibliothèque de l'Economie et de la Liberté. Il est l'hôte hebdomadaire de "EconTalk" (http://econtalk.org), et il blogue sur le site "Café Hayek" (http://cafehayek.com).

Ses oeuvres

Son premier livre, "Le choix : une fable du libre-échange et du protectionnisme", publié en 1994, fut classé l'un des 10 premiers livres de l'année par le magazine Business Week et l'un des meilleurs livres de l'année par le Financial Times. Dans son livre, "Le prix de tout : Une parabole de la possibilité et de la prospérité (Princeton University Press, 2008), il raconte, sous la forme d'un roman, la façon dont la prospérité est créée et soutenue, en regard de l'ordre invisible et de l'harmonie qui façonnent nos vies quotidiennes. Russell Roberts est également l'auteur d'un autre livre dans le même style : "Le coeur invisible : Une Romance économique", paru aux MIT Press, en 2001). Cet essai traite d'un éventail de questions de politique publique, y compris la responsabilité des entreprises, la sécurité des consommateurs et le bien-être.
