La confiance (du latin con -ensemble- et fidere -se fier, croire-), désigne un sentiment de sécurité vis-à-vis de quelqu'un ou quelque chose. C'est un élément essentiel de toute société libérale et de toute économie qui fonctionne.
Plusieurs auteurs ont souligné le manque de confiance en l'autre comme un des obstacles majeurs au développement français. Le prix Nobel d'économie Kenneth Arrow s'est également intéressé à cette notion dans ses déclinaisons économiques.
