John Thomas Flynn (né le 25 Octobre 1882, à Bladensburg, dans le Maryland - décédé le 13 avril 1964) était un journaliste américain. Diplômé de Georgetown Law School, il a choisi une carrière dans le journalisme, au New Haven Register, et il déménagea finalement à New York où il fut rédacteur en chef de la rubrique financière au New York Globe. Pendant les années 1920 et 1930, il a écrit des articles pour les principales publications telles que The New Republic, Harper's Magazine et Collier's Weekly. Il est devenu l'un des plus célèbres commentateurs politiques aux États-Unis.
Comme Oswald Garrison Villard, un autre personnage clé dans la droite conservatrice, John Flynn fut un populiste de gauche avec un changement de position politique durant sa vie. Il a soutenu Franklin D. Roosevelt à la présidence, mais il a critiqué le New Deal. John Flynn fut un anti-militariste. Il a enquêté sur le rôle des "marchands de la mort" (les fabricants d'armes et les banquiers), incitant l'entrée des États-Unis dans la Première Guerre mondiale. En 1936, il a rompu avec les idées politiques de Franklin D. Roosevelt. Il compara les statistiques et les caractéristiques centralisatrices du New Deal à la politique de Mussolini : "Nous semblons n'être pas très loin de la nature du fascisme de Mussolini", écrivait-il. Il a fortement critiqué la politique du New Deal qu'il considérait comme une "forme dégénérée du socialisme et du capitalisme avili». Dans le milieu des années 1940, il s'est décrit comme un libéral classique.
