Paul Edward Gottfried, né le 21 novembre 1941, est un historien et philosophe paléoconservateur américain. Il est professeur au Collège Elizabethtown en Pennsylvanie et chercheur adjoint au Ludwig von Mises Institute. Libéral et scientifique, il fait partie du bureau éditorial du Journal of Libertarian Studies.
Il est l'auteur de nombreux ouvrages et articles traduits en plusieurs langues sur des sujets variés comme l'histoire intellectuelle, le paleoconservatisme, l'historiographie et la théorie politique. Il a été l'ami d'hommes politiques et d'intellectuels influents : Richard Nixon, Pat Buchanan, John Lukacs, Christopher Lasch, Robert Nisbet et Murray Rothbard.
C'est le père de l'expression alt right pour désigner le mouvement politique contemporain américain, à la droite du mouvement conservateur classique.
