Prometheus Awards

Historique

Les Prometheus Awards (Prix Prométhée) ont été fondés en 1976 par l'écrivain de science-fiction libertarien L. Neil Smith. Un panel sélectionna le roman Wheels Within Wheels de F. Paul Wilson et la récompense, une pièce d'or valant alors 2500$ lui fut remise. Etant donné le prix du trophée et le manque d'organisation, le prix fut abondonné l'année suivante.

La Libertarian Futurist Society, fondée en 1982 pour encourager les auteurs de SF dont les livres traitent de la liberté, décida de relancer les PA. La LFS sponsorise le Prometheus Awards pour le meilleur roman depuis sa création et y a ajouté l'année suivante le Prometheus Hall of Fame Awards qui récompense un classique de la fiction libertarienne.

La récompense pour les deux prix est une pièce d'or représentant le libre commerce et la libre pensée. La pièce du Prometheus Awards pèse une demi-once puis, à partir de 2001, une once. Celle du Hall of Fame pèse un huitième d'once.
