Alan Peacock, né le 26 juin 1922 et décédé le 2 août 2014, était un économiste britannique de l'école du Choix Public.

Présentation

Il commence par enseigner l'économie à la London School of Economics (1948-56) puis obtient une chaire à l'université d’Édimbourg (1956-62) et ensuite à l'université d'York (1962-78). Il fonde dans cette dernière le département d'économie.

Il travailla par la suite comme professeur d'économie à l'université de Buckingham (1978-1984), la seule université privée du pays, qui venait juste d'être créée. Il en a été le premier Vice-President. Il est également professeur émérite de finances publiques à la Heriot Watt University.

Ses travaux ont porté principalement sur l'économie politique et les politiques publiques, avec plus de trente livres et deux cents articles académiques. Économiste engagé, il a également conseillé de nombreux gouvernements, étant en particulier économiste en chef du ministère du commerce et de l'industrie.

Il a été anobli en 1987. Il est membre de la British Academy. Engagé dans la promotion des idées libérales, il a collaboré avec l'Institute of Economic Affairs. Il fonda par la suite le David Hume Institute à Edinbourg.
