Gloria L. E. Zúñiga y Postigo est née et elle a été élevée au Pérou. Elle est allée aux Etats-Unis afin de poursuivre ses études universitaires.. Elle a obtenu un doctorat en philosophie à l'université de Buffalo avec une thèse[1] en philosophie sociale sous la direction de Barry Smith. Elle a mené une recherche sur la description ontologique des trois espèces : valeur morale, esthéthique et économie ainsi que sur leurs relations. Elle a étudié également la philosophie à l'université de Berkeley sous la direction de John Searle. Après avoir enseigné la philosophie à l'Université de Buffalo, dans l'Etat de New York (USA), de 1997 à 1999, puis au Tarrant County College, à Hurst, dans le Texas, (2000-2001), elle donne des cours depuis 2003, à l'université Grand Valley State, à Allendale, dans le Michigan.

Avant d'étudier la philosophie, elle a poursuivi des études en économie à l'Université d'Etat de Californie, et elle a étudié l'école autrichienne d'économie sous la direction de Kurt R. Leube. Elle s'est spécialisée dans l'analyse économique du droit et l'économie du sexe et de l'amour. Elle détient également un diplôme (B.S.) en Business et en économie à l'Université de Californie.

Ses recherches principales portent sur l'ontologie sociale et, les thèmes de ses observations incluent la théorie de la valeur (valeur morale, valeur esthéthique, valeur économique), le personnalisme (dignité humaine, créativité, identité), les institutions sociales (propriété, marriage, professions, systèmes d'information), et la nature de la sphère morale (éthique, réalisme morale, faits moraux, loi naturelle). Ses dernières recherches en ontologie sociale concernent le domaine des technologies de l'internet, un domaine connu comme la philosophie des systèmes d'information, connue aussi sous le nom de philosophie de la technologie aussi bien que par l'intitulé de philosophie des systèmes d'information.

Bien que formée à la philosophie analytique, Gloria L. Zuniga apprécie plutôt les sujets de tradition européenne. Cette préférence est une preuve de l'influence profonde des philosophes autrichiens et allemands Franz Brentano, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Edmund Husserl, Christian von Ehrenfels (le père de la Gestalt psychologie), Roman Ingarden (ontolgiste social en esthétique et en philosophie morale), et Alexius Meinong.
