Steve Hanke

Steve H. Hanke est professeur d'économie appliquée et co-directeur de l'Institute for Applied Economics and the Study of Business Enterprise à l'Université Johns Hopkins à Baltimore.

L'universitaire

Outre son appartenance au conseil scientifique de l’Institut Turgot, Steve Hanke est Senior Fellow du Cato Institute. Il a enseigné l’économie à la Colorado School of Mines de Golden et à l’Université de Californie à Berkeley. Il a travaillé dans des universités et des instituts de recherche en Autriche, en France, en Israël, au Kenya, en Suède et aux États-Unis.

L'homme d'affaires

Steve Hanke est aussi Principal de Chicago Partners LCC, entreprise de conseil économique et comptable en matière de titres financiers, de propriété intellectuelle, de concurrence, de responsabilité civile et autres procédures complexes. Il était auparavant président du Friedberg Mercantile Group Inc. à New York et du Toronto Trust Argentina à Buenos Aires, le fonds mutuel pour les marchés émergents. Il était chargé de mettre au point des stratégies en matière de change, de matières premières et pour un vaste portefeuille de titres financiers.

Le conseiller des gouvernements

Steve Hanke a aussi conseillé de nombreux gouvernements sur des questions de politique économique. Il est aujourd’hui le conseiller du président du Monténégro ainsi que du Ministre de l’Économie et des finances de l’Équateur. Il avait été Senior Economist au comité des conseillers économiques du président Ronald Reagan (1981-1982), conseiller du vice-président de Yougoslavie, conseiller de l’État lituanien, du ministre de l’économie de l’Argentine, Domingo Cavallo (1995-96), du président de la Bulgarie, Petar Stoyanov, (1997-2001) et du président de l’Indonésie.

Le communicateur

Steve Hanke écrit depuis 1993 un éditorial dans Forbes magazine et il est aussi rédacteur à Forbes Global, Central Banking et siège au conseil éditorial de The International Economy et autres revues savantes. Il est l'auteur de nombreux ouvrages et articles sur l'économie et la finance, publiés en anglais, français, allemand, espagnol, bulgare, estonien, lituanien, serbo-croate, turc, hébreu, russe et chinois.
