Ronald Hamowy est chercheur au service "Pensée Sociale" au Cato Institute. Il est professeur de l'Université d'Alberta. Il était auparavant directeur assistant d'histoire de la civilisation occidentale à l'université de Standford. Il a soutenu sa thèse sous la direction de Friedrich Hayek à l'université de Chicago.
Il est l'auteur de nombreux ouvrages sur la philosophie des lumières des écossais et sur la santé.
