Robert Dorfman

Robert Dorfman, né le 27 octobre 1916 à New York City et décédé le 24 juin 2002, est un économiste américain.

Biographie

Il était diplômé (B.A.) en mathématique et en Statistiques au Columbia College, N.Y., en 1936. L'année suivante, il eut son M.A. en économie à l'université de Columbia. Il a commencé sa carrière pour le gouvernement fédéral de 1939 à 1943. Il a participé à la seconde guerre mondiale au sein de L'U.S. Army Air Force. Il obtient son doctorat d'économie en 1950 à Berkeley, en Californie. Il reste professeur associé jusqu'en 1955 avant d'aller à Havard jusqu'à sa retraite en 1987. Il était marié avec la soeur cadette de Thomas Schelling, économiste de la théorie des jeux.

Il porta son attention à l'histoire économique et à l'école autrichienne d'économie, dont la théorie du capital d'Eugène Böhm-Bawerk. Son approche a motivé Israel Kirzner, dans l'écriture d'un livre sur la théorie du capital, avec une critique assère sévère de Robert Dorfman.
