Louis de Alessi, né le 29 juin 1932, est un économiste américain qui appartient à l'école des Free environmentalists, c'est-à-dire les économistes qui appliquent l'analyse économique du Droit, notamment la propriété pour comprendre les arrangements institutionnels et l'évolution économique. Louis De Alessi compare la propriété publique (des pouvoirs publics) à la propriété privée. Il relie les deux au problème de l'environnement afin de démontrer l'importance des droits de propriété privée dans le paradigme de l'environnement dans une société de libre marché.
