Tara A. Smith (née en 1961) est professeur de philosophie et titulaire de la Chaire BB & T pour l'étude de l'objectivisme. Elle est titulaire de la bourse de l'Atlas Fondation pour l'étude de l'objectivisme à l'Université du Texas à Austin.

Tara Smith est experte en théorie morale et politique et de la philosophie d'Ayn Rand. Elle a fait ses études de premier cycle à l'Université de Virginie et elle a reçu son doctorat de l'Université Johns Hopkins. Elle a enseigné à travers les États-Unis, y compris à l'Université de Harvard, au Wheeling Jesuit University, à la Duke University, à l'Université de Pittsburgh, et à la New York University. Elle a également organisé des conférences, en mettant souvent l'accent sur le droit objectif.

Tara Smith est membre du comité du "Philosopher's Index" et elle fait partie du Conseil consultatif académique, à l'Université Clemson, de l'Institut de Clemson pour l'étude du capitalisme. Tara Smith est membre de la "Société Ayn Rand" (Ayn Rand Society) et elle est également affiliée à l'Institut d'Ayn Rand (Ayn Rand Institute).
