Fred S. McChesney est un économiste américain, spécialiste de la dérégulation et des politiques Anti-trust. Il est né le 19 novembre 1948 (Washington, D.C.). Il est diplômé d'économie de l'université de Virginie en 1982 (Ph.D). Il est spécialiste de l'école du Public Choice et des politiques anti-trust.
En 1987, il écrit un article sur les deux différents produits vendus par les éditeurs de presse, la vente des journaux et les espaces publicitaires. Son papier montre pourquoi les événements sensationnels n'entraînent pas nécessairement un enrichissement pour les éditeurs. Fred S. McChesney utilise également l'analyse du marché financier pour examiner les effets richesse d'un événement sensationnel avec les cas particuliers du Watergate et du journal le Washington post.
