Jürgen G. Backhaus, né le 5 août 1950 à Hanovre, est un universitaire et auteur libéral allemand. Il enseigne à l'université d'Erfurt. Il a principalement écrit sur la finance et l'analyse économique du droit.

Présentation

Il a effectué ses études universitaires à l'université de Constance, en Allemagne, et à l'université d'Auburn. Il obtient à Constance en 1986 son Ph.D en économie avec une thèse dont le titre est Co-Determination: A Legal and Economic Analysis. Il a également passé un an au Center for Study of Public Choice en Virginie.

Entre 1980 et 1986, il enseigna dans le département d'économie de l'université d'Auburn aux États-Unis. De 1986 à 2001, il enseigne les sciences financières à l'université de Maastricht. Parallèlement, il est professeur visitant à l'université Robert Schumann de Strasbourg.

Il a écrit de nombreux ouvrages, en particulier sur l'école historique allemande.

Il a également collaboré avec l'Independent Institute au début des années 2000.
